NOTAMs

NATS Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) – the source of all the data, but can be a little difficult to use if you are not familiar with it. You have to register, but it is free.

Also see the BGA website for more information on how to use it.

Soaring Pilot’s Intelligent Notams Editor - SPINE You have to download the program, which is free.

Some people find it easier to understand the output and one big advantage of it is that it provides a map of all the Notams listed in the area selected.

You should also phone the freephone AIS number each morning on

0500 354802

to obtain latest information on things like Royal flights and Red Arrows displays – some but not all of these will be in the NOTAMs published on the internet sources. As they are generally items which are vital to avoid, calling this number is if anything, more important than reading the blurb, much of which is in the nature of information rather than mandatory.
